ABOUT PEARNEL CHARLES JR
WHO AM I?
I am an Attorney-at-Law qualified to practice in Jamaica and the United States of America. I am also a father of four children who enjoys playing football and the piano in my spare time.
A THRIVING CAREER
I currently serve Jamaica as the Minister of Labour and Social Security and as the duly elected Member of Parliament for the constituency of South East Clarendon.

As an executive member of the Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO, who serves as the Chairman of the UNESCO Youth Advisory Committee (UNESCOJAYAC), I conceptualized the UNESCOJAYAC Ambassador programme which has brought several youths across the country together to embark on a number of initiatives to boost youth engagement and participation in national development.

Additionally, I served as the Chairman of the National Council on Ocean and Coastal Zone Management (NCOCZM), a multi-sector, multi-stakeholder, high level advisory body to Cabinet on ocean and coastal zone affairs, and its committees. With a keen interest in the promotion and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, in July 2018 I led the Jamaican delegation to the United Nations that successfully presented the country's Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the SDG's. This was presented at the High Level Political forum of the UN Economic and Social Council.

As a Government Senator, I served on the Senate Standing Orders Committee and Private Bills Committee.

During my tenure as the Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, I served with distinction, having specific responsibility for the Department of Correctional Services, The Jamaica Combined Cadet Force and special projects within the national security portfolio. With a focus on youth development, I established the Learning by Doing Competition in 2016, promoting a student-centred approach to rehabilitation. In 2017 this initiative evolved into the We Transform Programme, a Youth Empowerment and Reintegration Programme operating across all Juvenile institutions in the Department of Correctional Services.
MISSION STATEMENT
Unlocking Potential
"In every position I have held, attending to the needs of our youth, the elderly, women and men have been at the forefront of my agenda. It has always been a passion of mine to support our vulnerable communities particularly those in the constituency of South East Clarendon in which I serve as Member of Parliament.
