KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Labour and Social Security and member of parliament for Clarendon South East, Pearnel Charles Jr believes the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) represents the best hope for the nation.
In a release on Monday, Charles Jr, who was speaking at his constituency conference at the Vere Technical High School in Clarendon on Sunday, reiterated that under the Andrew Holness-led Government, Jamaica has benefitted from almost a doubling of minimum wage, a meaningful increase to pension and increases in PATH benefits.
“No other party in government has done for the most vulnerable people what this government has done. Our Prime Minister and the JLP government have increased the minimum wage two times in one year,” Charles Jr said.
“Your prime minister, your leader has allowed us to not only increase minimum wage but to increase pension so the elderly people in our country can feel valued. On top of increasing the minimum wage and increasing pension, we increased PATH benefits,” Charles Jr said.
“Let me tell you something Labourites, you must know why you are a Labourite. It’s not just because you love the labour party, it’s because you love Jamaica and the best thing for Jamaica right now and in the future is the Jamaica Labour Party,” he added.
Noting that Clarendon South East will be ready when the next election is called, Charles Jr stressed that the JLP brought Jamaica through a pandemic with the economy recovering stronger than before.
“You understand that that is only happening because of good leadership? It doesn’t happen by chance. This is not about tic tac toe. This is solid, sensible, deliberate, calculated decisions made by your leaders to secure your future and that is why under Andrew Holness we can say that Jamaica now is in its most strong economic state. I don’t want you to take it lightly,” he said, adding, “I am proud to be a Labourite.”
