Jamaica is seeking to deepen its coffee trade opportunities with Japan, as Agriculture Minister Pearnel Charles Jr. and ministry representatives are in Tokyo on a one-week visit.
The objectives of the trip include broadening relations in technical cooperation, trade expansion, and building capacity across industries between the two nations.
The team is participating in the Invitation Program organised and sponsored by the Association for the Promotion of International Cooperation.
The minister is scheduled to meet with the Japanese Importers of Jamaican Coffee and visit other locations to seek partnerships to enhance Jamaica's Fisheries and digital farming.
According to ministry figures, coffee is a significant foreign exchange earner, averaging approximately US$30 million annually for 2018 to 2020.
